Lately, I’m ALL business. All the time

You know me… always maintaining a professional, business-like demeanor.

Last month, I missed the “Where Bloggers Live” post because I was taking care of business (Bettye kindly referred to it as “tending to life.” And that is entirely true. Boy, was I ever!).

But this month… I’m back to join the group discussion of “Things You’ll Always Hear Me Say”…

And, right now, it’s ALL business.

I’m humming BTO’s “Takin’ Care of Business” on permanent loop.

Because I AM takin’ care of business, every day. Taking care of business, every way.

Meet the primary source of the business–our new puppy:

Wilder, a fluffy cream-colored puppy, shortly after joining our family
This is the first picture we took of Wilder (WILD-er) after she officially became family.

Snuggling this floof has been incredible…Her little puppy coat is SO soft…NO business there, all pleasure.

But the dozen or so razor blades in her mouth…not so much.

Poor Allie. Living at ground level has made her the world’s most tolerant chew toy… We run interference as much as possible, but she’s doing a good job of teaching her new sister to “mind her business.”

SPEAKING of which…

“Business” is the word we have always applied to our dogs’, ahem, toileting activities. For example, “Although he was supposedly house trained, Jack still relished doing his business on my white, hand-sewn draperies.”

Little Wilder got off to a BAD start in this endeavor. We picked her up from the breeder who was located just outside of Nashville, in the Cumberland Mountain community of Wilder, Tennessee. (Yep, that’s where she got her name.)

Before flying home the next day, she stayed in our hotel room in Nashville and discovered….

Wilder as a tiny puppy in our Nashville hotel room

that it’s best not to allow one’s hoo-hah to come in contact with a hotel bathroom floor, lest one acquire a urinary tract infection. (This has never been a problem for me, by the way, and likely has not been one for you, either.)

But by the time we arrived home less than two days later, Wilder was squatting with increasing frequency–every two minutes-–giving new meaning to “accident.”

According to our shocked veterinarian, she had quite the rager brewing.

Is this TMI?

Are my posts ever NOT TMI?

Within a week, antibiotics helped get things under control…but we had certainly established quite the precedent of “any port in the storm.”

SO…I’ve been takin’ care of business. In the kitchen, in the family room and in the back hall for the last month.

Which means… “Business” is always on the tip of my tongue.

Ew, gross…not literally.

Figuratively!

What I meant was I am always either talking about it, planning ahead for it, or swearing if I missed it and have to clean it up…

Back hall: Time to do your business.

Outside: Business, business. Do your business.

A second musical version, channeling Disney’s Mulan: 🎶 Let’s get down to business… to defeat… the Huns. 🎶

When successful: GOOD GIRL! Good business!!!

Cringe-ily: Come on, we need some Poopy Business!

And my LEAST favorite: Aw, crap! Where are the bleach wipes?

I have a designated area in the yard where I prefer she conducts her business so we can keep the workspace clean, confined and localized. But Wilder is a private person when it comes to solid waste. She likes to hold her business meetings in clandestine areas, like in the pachysandra…

or the begonias.

For those scenarios, she is simply giving back to the earth what nature has wrought.

Fortunately, she’s not ALL business (and that’s actually the paycheck I enjoy the most).

And since you were so generous to read an entire post about micturition and defecation, here are some gratuitous first month puppy photos:

On the flight home she did NOT like being zipped up in her bag…so we let her stick her head out.

When she is not trying to eat Allie’s eyeballs, she is an excellent cuddler.

Our girls. 🥰

Had I actually written last month’s WBL post, “The Tabs That Never Close,” I would have mentioned how ChatGPT and I were spending lots of time together accessorizing my family room. We spent hours in a rabbit hole selecting the “perfect” area rug in just the right hues. Too many hours.

You know me, decisions never come easy.

Then life intervened and although the post never happened, the rug did.

It arrived about a month ago, serendipitously, just before we came home with Wilder. Here’s a photo of it:

New family-room area rug still wrapped in its original packaging in the garage

Still in it’s original packaging…still in the garage.

I may be an over-thinker. But I’m no idiot.

On the other hand, Wilder can’t wait to take it out for a spin.

I may not know for months whether we chose the perfect rug. But I’ll be savoring every minute (well, most minutes) of this very short, razor-fanged, flooffy puppy phase…while it lasts.

Who doesn’t like to peek behind the scenes and see inside people’s homes?
The second Friday of each month is when this group of bloggers link up to share their workspaces,
homes, towns… or whatever our fearless leader, the fabulous Bettye, proposes.
Make sure you visit everyone to see where the magic happens!
