I must stay focused, I must stay fo…….oooh! Look at that idea!

(This post is a Blogging 201 assignment, but all are welcome.)

I started this blog because I’d been spending waaaay too much time getting inspired by what everyone else was doing. I was inspired, but wasn’t really doing anything about it and had stopped working on my own projects because…well, I spent too much time online.

Documenting my accomplishments has been working out pretty well…I still check out what’s going on in DIY world, but I was back to checking things off my list and experimenting with an occasional thing that wasn’t ever on it.  Although I was blissfully moving forward, I was truthfully a little disappointed that no one from the outside world cared what I was doing.

Until I needed a new mailbox.

Posting that project on a popular DIY site resulted in nearly 40K views there and, in one day, resulted in more than 700 views on this blog for instructions. Maybe that’s not much for some but it was epic for me!

I actually had real comments (versus links to purple pill providers). A few kind, clever and fun people started “following,” which, frankly, felt pretty special after being all alone here for a several months.

I didn’t want to disappoint them and I hope they would stay. So, I started spinning my wheels to think of similar projects that might interest them.  I don’t know if they cared—certainly not like folks did the mailbox—but ultimately I got off track again because I’ve been thinking about all kinds of craft projects and not the original reason why I started blogging.

I love (LOVE) to craft, and I have some fun projects spinning in my head. Crafts are a really great diversion, but I have things I need to get done from my list, rooms that really need decorating, and DIY projects that will help me accomplish those things. And while I truly, sincerely, hope my new “friends” are interested, I have to stick to the plan.

So, this Blogging 201 assignment…to clarify three concrete goals for this blog…is timely and important.  So here they are:

1. To attend to the items on my to do list, because my primary audience lives in my house 🙂
2. To document those projects on this blog (at least once each week, if I can) to keep me focused, and in case anyone else is interested, and
3. To build a readership if possible by listing those projects on idea sharing websites.

Goal summary: to thine own self be true.
(Which, I think, is also the nicest thing I can do for anyone who decides to read this.)
