Ahhhh. The Fourth of July has come and gone. That means the coast is clear and nothing ahead but the rest of summer (keeping in mind that summer only technically began at the end of last month!
For Mr and I, Independence Day is our self imposed deadline to get the yard “ready.”
Not “finished,” just ready enough for company. Our annual worm-ridden swamp turns back into a chemically balanced aqua-hued pool; the furniture is out, cleaned, and in place; trees are trimmed; mulch is strewn; sidewalk is powerwashed and hundreds of begonias encircle a freshly painted chess pit (and the associated grumbling has finally ceased).
To make that deadline even more firm, for the past couple of years we’ve thrown a party. (Why not add a little more pressure to the tasks?) This year, we’ve been in a bit of a funk (for a couple of reasons) and decided to up the ante by inviting our extended family to stay overnight. So, in addition to getting the outside ready, I’ve also been highly motivated to complete my indoor “therapy” project.

Hmm, is that BLACK PAINT?
Hence…I’m definitely celebrating my independence from Independence Day by turning my attention to other things. Important things…
…like skincare…and makeup.
Sigh.
(Just kidding. My focus is now directed to gardening… but just for fun and relaxation…and the hope that next year’s garden will be better than this year’s.)
BUT…the topic for this month’s Where Blogger’s Live IS actually “My Makeup and Skincare Regimen.”
In other words, this will be a VERY short post. (You’re welcome.)
I’m not much of a skin care person. I occasionally purchase some kind of cream or serum, but I use them sporadically.. As for makeup, I took Jodie’s advice from a previous post and tried one of the Laura Geller makeup palates… It’s pretty subtle, but it stops the dogs from howling.
Although half the time I skip the face paint, when I DO hit the makeup tray my essentials start with eye shadow to recreate the missing portions of my eyebrows, followed by a line of pale pink highlighter just underneath; blend that in with a very light powder shadow; curl my lashes, set with mascara…and that’s the basic regimen that keeps me from scaring small children.
If it’s a night out, I’ll use the rest of the Geller promo palate: powder foundation, blush, highlighter and bronzer. My goodness, you’d hardly recognize me!
Yikes! Momma needs some sunscreen! If this is the future AI predicts for me, maybe I should also invest in and USE a better moisturizer.

I’m going to have to refer you to my “Where Blogger’s Live” pals for that information. (One shouldn’t take beauty advice from a hermit who cuts her own hair.)

HAHAHAHA!! I kinda want to try that age progression AI business but scared to do it. It will probably come back with a pile of ashes for me!! Cannot see one thing about your supposed age progression graphic that looks remotely like you. That cannot be based on any photo of you, my friend. No way.
Well, I take that back. Maybe the bright blue eyes.
Cannot imagine how you host all the folks for the opening of the pool and the kick-off to summer. I get nervous having the grandkids and my daughter come for a couple of hours. I absolutely DID NOT get the social gene. And I think that is because my parents were lacking it, too, and my grandparents – at least grandmothers, before them. Love the idea of begonias lining the yard, and the freshly painted chess game. We need to power wash all of our furniture but it would truly be a waste of money because the very next day we would have (another) dust storm.
Hope you are hanging in there, friend. I think of you often. And your mama.
You never fail to make me giggle….and I cut my own hair too many times.
I can’t wait to see the house and yard projects…did I tell you I painted the door into the garage black??
Xoxo
Jodie
I was wondering where this was going with the alligator (or is it a crocodile…never can tell them apart)! I would love to be your neighbor and get invited to one of your parties. On the other hand, I would really dislike it because you have the best yard ever! I can’t wait to see what’s coming with the black paint…you will share, right? I have become very interested (not quite obsessed yet) with darker, moodier colors. So, I’m really, really interested!!! Oh, and I like Laura Gellar on occasion, too! I just started the other day with ChatGPT so now I’m going to have to age myself, too! I’ll put that in the attic so I can remain forever youthful and beautiful! Hope all is well…

All is “okay”. “Well” would be a bit of a stretch right now, but we’re all trying to work through it. Too many changes too fast.
Party…with my neighbors?! I’ll have to try that one, haha. Ours are usually with family or people who are like family…
YOU can definitely come!
I will say all of the crazy changes and different things we’re doing is because we DO want this to be a party house!
I just hope that by the time we finish, I’m not too old and don’t have trouble finding the energy .
